Inventing Annahasn’t even made its debut on Netflix yet, and it is already creating a buzz. The show stars Emmy winnerJulia Garnerand if that isn’t enough to get watching, maybe her unique accent will. In this new miniseries, Garner plays Anna Delvey, the Instagram-alleged German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene as well as stole their money.
“A big thing for me was the accent. If I didn’t have the accent down, then I wouldn’t have a lot of the character down,” Garner explains in a new behind-the-scenes clip released by Netflix. Garner goes on to explain the process of coming up with the accent. She says that she started with a German accent, then added bits of Russian and elements of European or American tones depending on who Delvey is with. In researching this role, Garner met with Delvey, so she could learn how to play the famous con-woman and relied heavily on the accent, designer clothing, a wig and fake teeth, she says. “You don’t have to love my character, you can actually hate my character, but you have to want to understand Anna,” she says.

The character is intense, and the meeting was crucial for Garner to take on the role. To hear what the actress says, check out the clip posted byNetflixbelow.
What Is Inventing Anna About?
Inventing Annacenters around a journalist who investigates the case of Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin. The drama was the first project that Grey’s Anatomycreator Shonda Rhimes set at Netflix after she gained the rights to the New York Magazine story “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.” So many people believed her when she lied and said that a wire transfer was coming or that the credit card was good, just because she dressed and acted the part. The scam got her months of hotel stays she never paid for and came very close to netting her millions of dollars in loans to start an art-focused social club she called the Anna Delvey Foundation.
The story went viral, and now the nine-episode miniseries will debut on Netflix on February 11th, 2022. You can also watch Julia Garner on the first half of theOzarks’final season streaming on Netflix. The Russian-born Sorokin was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison and was later released on parole in 2021.
Just six weeks after Sorokin was released from the Albion Correctional Facility on parole in February 2021, she found herself in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. Delvey/Sorokin has stated that she will not be watching the series when it is released.
