Details about the project are being kept a secret by Smith and those involved, but the director is aware of how much pressure rests on his shoulders to get the movie right.

Kevin Smith recently spoke to Screen Rant to promote the theatrical re-release ofDogma, and opened up about the pressure he feels over fans' expectations forDogma 2. “I can’t fcking afford to ruin aDogmaspinoff,” Smith said. “Too many people fcking love this movie, so I can’t make that same movie again, because I don’t have the same faith.” The director is known for calling himself out when he makes a bad movie, and he knows that fans do the same online. “I do want to [reassure] those cats who loveDogmathat are like, ‘Oh, he’s gonna fcking ruin it,’ and,‘I sawClerks 3, fck him!'”

While Kevin Smith’s religious beliefs might have changed since he made the original, the director says that hasn’t stopped him from putting pen to paper to find a way around his crisis of faith. “Like the way they say in the movie, ‘I don’t believe like that anymore,’ I have some pretty good ideas,” he continued. “But, what it lacks in the faith that powered that first one — I know where it is now, because I’ve been writing it — it makes up for in pure cleverness.”

‘Dogma’s Re-Release Has Helped Kevin Smith Write the Sequel

WithDogmanow free from the clutches of Miramax,Kevin Smith is taking the film on tour across America, screening it to sold-out audiences in local theaters throughout the country. As well as giving fans a chance to see the movie on the big screen, Smith revealed that the tour is helping him to recalibrate his mind towardsDogmaso that he can write the sequel. “The tour has been more helpful than me just sitting in the back and victory lapping it,” he explained. “I’ve been sitting in the back listening, going like, ‘All right, there’s a joke that could carry over. There’s some ties I can make. Oh, there’s a thing I could pay off in the next movie.’ So, it’s been helpful as well.”

Dogma 2doesn’t have an official release dateor window yet. As Smith is still working on the script, it hasn’t been revealed if he has a deadline before the movie begins production. However, Smith assures fans that, whenDogma 2eventually makes its way to theaters, people who enjoyed the original are going to love it. “When you see the movie, you’ll be like, ‘Of course, that’s the Dogma sequel. That makes a lot of sense.'”
