Given the immense success of the game, with many expecting it to win Game of the Year at next year’s Game Awards, a movie adaptation was always a likelihood. Fans ofKingdom Come: Deliverancecan soon see Henry of Skalitz on the big screen. But it’s far from your usual video game movie.
Per Deadline, a theatrical cut ofKingdom Come: Deliverance IIwill premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Unlike every othervideo game movie from the past four decades,Kingdom Come: Deliverance II’s film won’t reproduce the game’s story in live-action or animation. Instead, the actual game has been recut into a feature-length story. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czechia takes place between July 4-12, withKingdom Come: Deliverance II’s movie premiering on July 9. There currently aren’t any plans for a wider release, although the video game movie is expected to be released online somewhere for fans to enjoy.

The game is the long-awaited sequel to 2018’sKingdom Come: Deliverance. The story is set in Bohemia in 1403, during the Hungarian invasion, aided by Czech officials. Players control Henry of Skalitz, a blacksmith’s son who sets out to avenge his father, putting him in the company of his liege lords, Sir Radzig Coppola and Sir Hans Capon. The 2025 sequel saw Henry and Sir Hans set out on a diplomatic mission to restore peace. But when the pair are almost killed on route, they take matters into their own hands to avenge Henry’s father and protect the realm from chaos.

Warhorse Studio Comments on the Unique Video Game Movie
Gaming fans won’t be strangers to fan-made video game movies. The internet is filled with fan-made compilations that blend gameplay with cutscenes to create semi-coherentmovie adaptations of beloved games.But it’s incredibly rare to see a video game studio get in on the trend. Following the announcement, Warhorse Studios’ (the producers ofKingdom Come: Deliverance II) CEO, Martin Fryvadlsky, said that seeingKCDon the big screen has been a dream for many years. The CEO said:
“I have wished to see Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on the big screen for a long time, I believe that the civil story of a blacksmith’s son will also appeal to film audiences and stand up to the competition of international movie productions. Together with my colleagues in the studio, we are proud that we have the opportunity to present the story we have been working on for many years in a world premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.”

KVIFF artistic director, Karel Och, also expressed their joy at premieringKCD II’s movie at the upcoming festival. “We are honored to be working together with world leaders in their field on this unique project, which represents an exceptionally original contribution to our long-standing goal of presenting powerful and gripping stories captured in a unique manner,” they said.
