It’s been ten years since everyone’s favorite great ape last appeared on the big screen in 2005’sKing Kong, directed byPeter Jackson. He is now set to return in an all-newadventurefrom directorJordan Vogt-Roberts, best known for his coming-of-age summer dramedyThe Kings of Summer. Legendary and Warner Bros. have big plans for the gigantic Hominoidea, who is being fully indoctrinated into the rebootedGodzillauniverse.Kong: Skull Islandwill arrive in March 2017, followed byGodzilla 2in June of 2018. Then, both monsters will clash in the title boutGodzilla Vs Kong, set for release on 2020.

Kong: Skull Islandwill give us a backstory on the King. The story centers on a group of explores who travel to Kong’s mysterious homeland, which is filled with plenty of other dangers, like giant snakes and dinosaurs. The film begins in 1970s Detroit, giving the reboot a very distinct setting.Tom Hiddlestonleads anensemble castthat also includesBrie Larson,Samuel L. JacksonandJohn Goodman. The main thrust of the plot finds the Skull Island team leader setting off for the treacherous, primordial isle in search of his brother and a mythical serum. Along the way, his men must confront extraordinary creatures the likes of which have never been seen before by humans.

Also appearing in the movie are Tian Jing, John Ortiz andToby Kebbell, who knows a thing or two about apes after appearing as Koba inDawn of the Planet of the Apes.Kong: Skull Islandis written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Legendary’s John Jashni and Thomas Tull are producing alongside Mary Parent.
