Her first recurring role sincethe infamous college admissions scandal, the police proceduralfollows a pair of Long Beach Police Department officers on patrol, portrayed byPretty Little Liarsalum Troian Bellisario and13 Reasons Why’sBrandon Larracuente.

Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, wereaccusedof paying $500,000 in bribes to have their two daughters designated as recruits for the University of Southern California’s crew team, even though neither participated in the sport. This allowed their daughters to gain admission to the university under false pretenses. In 2020, the actress served a two-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud.

Lori Loughlin Surrenders to Serve 2 Month Prison Sentence for College Admissions Scandal

The Full House actress reported to FCI-Dublin in California this morning to begin her prison sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal.

At the time, Loughlin starred in Hallmark Channel’s popular historical dramaWhen Calls the Heart, but as her involvement in the scandal became public, she was let go from the series. Loughlin has since appeared in minor roles on different series, including an episode ofCurb Your Enthusiasmthat poked fun at the scandal and Loughlin’s public image.

Lori Loughlin Steps Out of Comfort Zone in ‘On Call’

InOn Call, Loughlin appears as Lieutenant Bishop, a role she says is unlike anyone she’s portrayed before. During an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Loughlin discusses how Eriq LaSalle — whom she starred alongside in the 1993 TV movieEmpty Cradle— played a significant part in her beingcast against type:

“I feel very blessed that it came to me. I got a phone call out of the blue, honestly, offering me the role and Eriq was very instrumental in that happening. I read the script. It’s agreatscript. The pilot episode was just phenomenal. Bishop is a really different character from anything I’ve ever played. In fact, I almost wanted to call back and say, ‘Are you sure you want to offer it to me?'”

LaSalle appears in the series as veteran Sargeant Lasman, serves as an executive producer, and directed several episodes. Loughlin says that LaSalle helped to get her into character as a series director:

“What he said to me was, ‘I’m gonna push you and I won’t let you fail, but we’re going to take you in a different direction than you’ve ever been.’ And he did push me, and I trusted him. He said, ‘You’re unapologetic in your performance. I want you to really lean into your strength. You’re a strong leader, and you’re no-nonsense; own that power.’ I would test it out, and he’d say, ‘You’re on the right track. We’re going to go a little further.’ He just kept pushing me and pushing me, and giving me the confidence. Once I got comfortable, then it really all came together for me.”
