As part of the franchise’s SDCC display, the creators of theStar Warssfranchise have categorically stated that Anakin Skywalker was not the greatest Jedi – a topic that has often been hotly debated among fans and has been stirred up with this latest update.
‘Star Wars’ Doesn’t Need Another Season of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 is the last thing the ‘Star Wars’ franchise needs, as it should move on from the past and invest in new characters.
It is no secret that theStar Warsfanbase has some very strong opinions on…well, everything. Many fans would die on a hill declaring Anakin Skywalker is the greatest Jedi of all-time, which means Lucasfilm’s new short biography of the character is going to cause a few arguments. The statement, which has also now been added to the officialStar Warswebsite, reads:
“Discovered as a slave on Tatooine by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker had the potential to become one of the most powerful Jedi ever. Some even believed he was the prophesied Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. Always pushing the limits of his Jedi training, seeking to excel and live up to his reputation, Skywalker’s passion often brought him into conflict with his mentor, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. A hero of the Clone Wars, Anakin was caring and compassionate, but suffered from a deep fear of loss that would prove to be his downfall.”
Anakin Skywalker Is Set To Make Another Return to the ‘Star Wars’ Franchise
WhenHayden Christensenunderwent his transformation from Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader in the final act ofStar Wars Episode III – Revenger of the Sith, many fans believed that was the end of Christensen’s time in the franchise. In fact, the actor also believed that his role of Anakin was over as, at the time,he received some harsh criticism for his portrayal.
However, in 2022, Christensen joined his former costar Ewan McGregor forObi-Wan Kenobion Disney+. The show saw Christensen reprise his role as both Vader and Anakin, while McGregor was back in his Jedi robes as Ben Kenobi. The series was a strong performer on streaming, and Christensen was welcomed back into the franchise like a long-lost son.He went on to appear inAhsokaas a Force Ghost, and will do so in Season 2, which is set for release in 2026.
Anakin’s position in the pantheon of famous Jedi is something that will now be debated all over again. Previously,Star Warscreative and one of the most knowledgeable voices in the world ofStar Wars, Dave Filoni, has said several times that Anakin is the franchise’s greatest Jedi.The Mandaloriancreator, Jon Favreau, has also made note that he believes Anakin is “potentially the greatest Jedi ever.”
However, now the official bio of the character puts that all in doubt, and while this will spark up plenty of arguments from those who have always denied Anakin is the greatest Jedi, there are others who will resolutely stand by their beliefs to the contrary.
