The Use of AI Is Now a Big Issue for the Movie Industry
M3GANis not the first (and surely won’t be the last) film that has spoken up about the danger of the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence. But its release coincided not only with a turning point in the use of this type of tool in everyday life, but also in the film and television industry.
In recent years, AI has taken a very important role in social media, especially for the creation of images and videos that look extremely realistic. And it’s something that represents a great danger as they can be easily confused with something real and original. But the debate over the use of artificial intelligence has taken a new turn during the current crisis in Hollywood, due to the strikes.

Both writers and actors in the industry have been extremely concerned about the way studios can use this type of technology to eliminate some jobs, whether it be writing scripts orrecreating the likeness of actorsto reduce their working hours and costs. While the writers have already managed to reach an agreement with AMPTP to regulate the use of AI, SAG-AFTRA is still fighting for a new agreement, and AI is one of the most important issues they are negotiating with the studios.
Many actors have been victims of the use of artificial intelligence in recent months, such as Tom Hanks, the late Robin Williams and Scarlett Johansson, due tothe illegal use of their respective likenesses. Disney was even exposed for the use of AI-generated background actors in one of their recent movies, as well as the creation of the opening sequence forSecret Invasion, among other things.

But AI isn’t going anywhere, and no doubt James Wan and theM3GAN 2.0team will be able to tap into the zeitgeist once again.
