With the final installment of herResident Evilfranchise set for release next year, actressMilla Jovovichis stepping back into the sci-fi world yet again. The actress has signed on to star inFuture World, a new post-apocalypstic thriller that is being directed byJames Franco. The actor-director is also starring in the movie, although no othercast membershave been revealed quite yet.
The story is set in apost-apocalypticlandscape, following a young boy, born into an elite family, who journeys across this wasteland to find medicine for his dying mother. Although he isn’t even sure if this medicine exists, he sets off with his trusted bodyguard into thisdangerous world, which is run by an evil warlord, who has nefarious plans up his sleeve involving a robot assassin disguised as a gorgeous woman.Deadlinereports thatMilla Jovovichis set to play a drug lord, but no details were given for whoJames Francois playing.
James Francois directing alongsideBruce Thierry Cheung, who directed 2014’sThe Color of Time. Dark Rabbit Productions is producingFuture World, with AMBI set to distribute, but no release date has been determined. It isn’t known when production will begin at this point, or how many other main roles have yet to be cast.James Francocan currently be seen on the hit Hulu series11.22.63, and he will also lend his voice to the R-rated animated comedySausage Party, which hits theaters this August. The filmmaker/actor is also directingThe Masterpiece, currently in post-production, where he stars as directorTommy Wiseau, chronicling the making of his cult classicThe Room.
Milla Jovovichrecently appeared as Katinka in Paramount’s comedy sequelZoolander 2. Her highly-anticipatedResident Evil: The Final Chapteris set to hit theaters on July 19, 2025, which will bring this beloved cinematic franchise to a close.
