Last year, horror masterEli Rothreturned to the director’s chair for the first time in nearly a decade, unleashing not one, but two new movies,Knock, KnockandThe Green Inferno. It seems that, in his long hiatus away from the director’s chair, part of that time was spent developing a super-secret project known asMission: Fear. The director unveiled the first look at this sci-fi thriller today, although, sadly, we don’t get too much detail.
The filmmaker unveiled thisteaser traileron Twitter yesterday, but he wouldn’t divulge any other details. Apparently the entire project was cast and shot in secret, and there is no word as to who may be starring in the movie. All we do know is it’s set to hit theaters and/or VOD platforms in April 2017, and it’s set in outer space.
We don’t even know for sure ifEli Rothis directing the movie, and it’s possible that he could only be producing, but it seems likely that he’s directing, since he went through all the trouble to keep this project a secret. If this is in fact his next directorial effort, it will represent his first foray into thesci-fi genre. Still, judging by the brief amount of information we get in the trailer, there will surely be some horror elements at play as well.
While there is apparently some sort ofrelease datein place, we don’t know who is distributing this movie. It’s possible that the filmmaker could have teamed up withJason Blumand his Blumhouse company, since they put outThe Green Inferno, or he may have taken the film to Lionsgate Premiere, the company that distributedKnock Knock. It’s possible that he could have found another distributor as well, but we don’t know at this point.
All we know aboutMission: Fearis the title, release date, and its director. Of course,Eli Roth’s name alone could be enough to get manyhorror moviefans ready to see this movie next April, but we’ll have to wait and see when the full cast is announced, and actual footage is released. Until then, take a look at this teaser trailer and let us know what you think.
