Mark Hudis, known for his work on HBO’s hit vampire seriesTrue Blood, has just exited as Showrunner on the highly anticipated TV series adaptation ofLemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events. Coming to Netflix later this year, the bad news was met with good whenNeil Patrick Harriswas announced as the show’s evil lead Count Olaf.
Count Olaf will beNeil Patrick Harris’s first major TV role since leavingHow I Met Your Motherin 2014, where he played bad boy Barney. His new character, originated byJim Carreyin the 2004 big screen adaptationLemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, will be quite the departure. At this time, no replacement has been named for Mark Hudis. Netflix is refusing to comment on either matter.
The Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events TV show is being produced in association with Paramount TV and Netflix. Author of the series, Daniel Handler, who writes under the pen name Lemony Snicket, is set to executive produce. No furthercastinghas been announced at this time. The movie, which was from Paramount Pictures, also starred Liam Aiken,Emily Browning, Kara Hoffman, Shelby Hoffman,Jude Law,Timothy Spall,Catherine O’Hara,Billy ConnollyandMeryl Streep.
Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Eventstells the story of three orphaned children. Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are constantly battling their evil uncle Count Olaf, who is only out to inherit their family fortune. Brad Silberling, who directed the movie, has been asked to return to helm this new series. Though it isn’t known if he’s tackling all episodes or just the pilot.
