Arnold Schwarzeneggerwill not be back on Netflix after his action seriesFUBARfinally lived up to its name after two seasons. Season 2 of theTerminatorstar’s first leading-role TV appearance aired back in June to very mixed reviews and a lackluster viewership, so perhaps its fate is not the most surprising outcome for the series.

The cancellation means that the insane adventures of Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) and his CIA-agent daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) have now come to a close, and we will not see how their father/daughter bickering could have continued to play out in another series. This will be a disappointment to fans who embraced the show’s blatant tongue-in-cheek approach to the action genre, which played tropes from every Schwarzenegger movie of the last four decades.

Created byReachershow-runner Nick Santora and produced by Skydance Television,FUBARarrived with a bang on Netflix in 2023, delivering a bonkers action series that really delivered if you were looking for some senseless violence and plenty of convoluted plotpoints. The show logged a strong debut, mostly forbeing Big Arnie’s first foray into the world of television. However, the two-year gap between seasons seemed to make many people forget about the series when it returned this year, or perhaps it just was not promoted as much as it could have been by Netflix. Season 2 failed to make much impact on the streaming charts, and very quickly slipped off the radar.

There’s nothing like getting the approval of your “father.”

FUBARwas incredibly cheesy, over-the-top, and certainly did not take itself seriously – a bit like its leading man – but the show’s mixed reception from both audiences and critics certainly did not help the show become a multi-season success.FUBARfollowed Luke Brunner, an aging CIA operative on the brink of retirement who discovers his daughter is also working undercover. The pair were thrown together unexpectedly while trying to take down arms-dealer Boro Polonia (Gabriel Luna) before, in Season 2, being pitted against a chemical-weapons plot partly masterminded by Brunner’s former lover (Carrie-Anne Moss).

Fan reaction online has been mixed. Those who enjoyed the show’s throwback to the chaotic and mostly ridiculous mayhem of ‘80s action movies, with a good helping of dad jokes and knowing winks to Schwarzenegger’s classic roles, were sad to see it cut short, but those who have been watching Arnie’s sparring partnerLike ‘Tulsa King?’ You’ll Love These Shows, Toojust couldn’t get on board the nostalgia train.

Now thatFUBARhas bitten the bullet, Schwarzenegger’s TV future is very uncertain. However, the actor is certainly not one for resting on his laurels and he will not be too far away from having several new projects on the horizon. Meanwhile, fans can still enjoy both seasons ofFUBARon Netflix.
