Sorry, Riley fans.Girl Meets Worldhas met another disappointing blow below the belt as Netflix declines the opportunity to pick up thefamily sitcomfollowing its cancelation on The Disney Channel. The team behind the sequel toBoy Meets Worldwas looking for a new home. But it won’t be on the world’s most popular streaming service, which actually has a big deal with Disney in place already.

Netflix was one of few avenues theGirl Meets Worldteam was traveling down in the hopes of securing more future episodes.The Wrapreports that this bit of hope was shut down. Netflix has officially declined to pick the show up for a fourth season.

Girl Meets Worldwascanceledon January 4. This immediately set off a firestorm of controversy amongst the series' many fans. A backlash formed, and campaigns to save the show sprouted up almost immediately upon announcement of the cancellation. The show continues the story ofBoy Meets World, with Cory (Ben Savage) andTopanga(Danielle Fishel) all grown up, raising their teenage daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) as she interacts with her close group of friends. The show will continue to seek out another platform, but it’s unlikely that it will go on at this point.

Fans have mounted campaigns for both Netflix and Hulu to pick upGirl Meets World. Showrunner Michael Jacobs says he never agreed with the cancelation decision at Disney. And he says that there is a lot more story to tell when it comes to Riley and her family. He explains.

“We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms. I don’t think Girl should have been canceled. We signed to do four seasons. I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That’s the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end.”

At this time, HULU has not responded to requests to pick up the show. There are a number of other options being sought out, but it’s unclear if any interest is being shown. All that is confirmed is that Netflix will definitely not arrive as a knight in shining armor to be the show’s savior.

At this time,Disney Channelrefuses to comment on the show’s ultimate fate. As far as the cable network is concerned,Girl Meets Worldhas ended with its third and final season, with the last episodes airing this month. TheGirl Meets WorldSeries Finale will air this Friday at 6pm on The Disney Channel.
