We have some new footage fromSolo, the next exciting chapter in the ongoing standaloneStar WarsStory series. Disney and Lucasfilm have released a new TV spot that features quite a bit of new footage. Specifically, this spot showcases the Millennium Falcon and it’s role in the movie. We also get more of Donald Glover’s Lando. Even if Alden Ehrenreich can’t win us over as a young Han, this whole thing may be worth it for the new Lando if this new footage is any indication.
Lucasfilm has started to push the marketing forSolo: A Star Wars Storyrecently, as the movie is set to arrive in theaters on May 25. They’ve slowly been revealing more and more of the actualyoung Han Soloto us, but in some ways, it still feels like they’re leaning heavily on the other aspects of the movie, and it’s easy to see why. This looks and feels like aStar Warsmovie in every sense, which is amazing considering how troubled the production has been. However, this is still all going to rely on just how much they actually managed to convince us that someone other than Harrison Ford can be Han Solo.
The cast for the movie includes Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany. The script forSolo: A Star Wars Storycomes fromEmpire Strikes Backwriter Lawrence Kasdan and his son, Jonathan Kasdan.Ron Howard earned a sole directing creditfor his work, having come in after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired. Lord and Miller are credited as executive producers.
In many ways, this movie feels like a pivotal moment for theDisneyera ofStar Wars. No matter how you feel about it personally, it’s hard to not acknowledge thatStar Wars: The Last Jediwound up being a very divisive movie. So, not only doesSolo: A Star Wars Storyhave to sort of help win back some fans who may have been put off by that movie, but it also has to deliver a believable, new version of one of the most beloved characters in cinema history, as well as be good enough to make people look past the very troubled production. It’s a tall order.
To make matters just a bit worse,Deadpool 2comes out just a week prior, which could make forsome very stiff competition. It’s also been rumored that, due to the fact Lucasfilm had to reshoot most of the movie,Solowill wind up being one of the most expensive movies ever produced. So that means it’s going to have to make a lot of money at the box office just to break even.
