A whole host of new, HD images from upcoming sci-fi action outingThe Matrix Resurrectionscontinue to tease the mysterious sequel, giving us a glimpse at the roster of old and new characters, as well as the exciting action sequences that will litter the movie as Neo and Trinity once again attempt to uncover the truth. The wait is almost over, withThe Matrix Resurrectionsdue for release later this month following a series of delays.
The Matrix ResurrectionsfindsKeanu Reevesreprising the role of Neo AKA The One, who is now living a seemingly ordinary life as Thomas A. Anderson in San Francisco where his therapist prescribes him blue pills in order to dampen his destiny. But, a chance meeting with Trinity will once again reawaken Neo’s mind to reality. Much like the trilogy before it, it is the central relationship between Neo and Trinity that will take focus, with Keanu Reeves having recently described The Matrix follow-up as Neo’s “second chance.”
“When [director Lana Wachowski] approached me, she spoke about having a story to tell which centered around Neo and Trinity, and that sounded really exciting to me,” the actor explained adding, “Neo’s getting a second chance at his life, and he’s getting a second chance with the person that he says is ‘the only person I ever loved.'” Reeves’ co-starJonathan Groffadds, “When I read the script for this movie I cried, because the idea of watching these two iconic actors in these two iconic parts coming back and fighting to have their love again just wrecked me.”
Produced, co-written, and directed byLana Wachowski,The Matrix Resurrectionsstars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity respectively, as well as Jada Pinkett Smith, who will also reprise the roles of Niobe from previous movies. Making up the rest of the supporting cast are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lambert Wilson, Daniel Bernhardt, Eréndira Ibarra, Christina Ricci, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Telma Hopkins, Max Riemelt, Toby Onwumere, Brian J. Smith, Andrew Caldwell, and Ellen Hollman.
Several character descriptions have since been released, each of which teases the twists and turns that will no doubt take place as Neo navigates his way between the digital and real worlds. Several returning characters will have undergone several changes, withCandymanstarYahya Abdul-Mateen IIconfirmed to be playing “the wise and worldly Morpheus," though many suspect there will be more to his character than that. Mindhunter star Jonathan Groff’s role meanwhile has now been revealed to be villainous in nature, with the mysterious character being introduced firstly as “Thomas Anderson’s business partner," before slowly revealing himself to be a much more familiar presence. Priyanka Chopra Jonas will also join the world of The Matrix as an older version of Sati, “a young woman with a wisdom that belies her years and an ability to see the truth, no matter how murky the waters."
The Matrix Resurrectionswill have its world premiere on Jun 09, 2025, in San Francisco and is scheduled to be released byWarner Bros. Picturestheatrically on August 24, 2025. The movie will also stream digitally onHBO Maxin the United States for a month beginning on that same date.
