A24 has released the first trailer for its newest film,Opus. The movie starsAyo Edebirias Ariel, a music journalist who is invited to the remote compound of reclusive rock star Moretti (John Malkovich) to promote the release of his first new album since the musician disappeared from the public eye 30 years ago. Juliette Lewis and Murray Bartlett co-star as journalists invited to stay at Moretti’s compound, where things seemingly take a turn for the worse as Edebiri’s character fights for survival.
With the tagline “There’s no cult like celebrity,“Opushas the vibe of cult horrorMidsommar, with darkly comedic social commentary on the eccentricities of the rich and famous and class disparities. The brief trailer teases an unsettling atmosphere that will leave viewers wanting more. Whatever Malkovich’s character’s true intentions are and whether the titular Opus of an album is real remains to be seen – but we don’t have too long to wait:Opushits theaters on March 14.

Opusis the directorial debut of Mark Anthony Green, who also wrote the screenplay. Amber Midthunder, Stephanie Suganami, and Tatanka Means also star in the film, which is set to premiere as part of the Midnight section of the2025 Sundance Film Festival. Edebiri last headlined the A24 filmBottoms, and most recently won her first Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series for Season 3 ofThe Bear.
