TheParanormal Activityfranchise has not released a new film in almost two years, but the horror franchise will soon tell a new story; not on the big screen but on stage.
There are already several films and movie sagas that have had the opportunity to expand their reach, arriving at the marquees of Broadway or London’s West End. And now, the story created by Israelite director and screenwriter Oren Peli will have its chance to surprise live audiences as well.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the newsthatParanormal Activitywill soon be adapted as a stage play. Acclaimed producer Simon Friend has acquired the rights to the story from Paramount Pictures, with screenwriter Levi Holloway penning the script, which the outlet states is in the early stages of development.
Friend has already had the opportunity to bring various film franchises to the stage such asThe Da Vinci Code,Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, andLife of Pi, which won five Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards. Holloway, for his part, also has a long list of acclaimed productions under his belt. He recently had his play,Gray Houseplaying on Broadway, starring Tatiana Maslany, Paul Sparks, and Laurie Metcalf.

The sequel, which is actually set both a few weeks before and also after the events of the first movie, hit theaters in 2010 and centered on the sister of the original protagonist and her family, who begin to experience strange events.
In 2011, thefirst official prequel arrived. The film tells the story of the two sisters as children, and their first encounter with the demon that will continue to haunt them for life. They live with their mother and her boyfriend, who is the one who decides to install security cameras to discover what is happening with the girls.
The fourth installment, which premiered in 2012, is set in 2011 and focuses on a family that begins to experience strange events when a new neighbor arrives with her son. That neighbor is, in fact, the protagonist of the first film.
