Star Warsmovies are lining up thick and fast in the coming years following the drought of cinema offerings sinceThe Rise of Skywalkerin 2019. Lucasfilm has a strong desire to get the franchise back on the big screen, and surprisingly, it looks like the cancelled/not cancelledPatty JenkinsmovieRogue Squadroncould be part of that theatrical resurgence of theStar Warssaga.

Rogue Squadron

Despite apparentlybeing dropped from Lucasfilm’s schedules back in 2022, Jenkins has now revealed that following the cancellation ofWonder Woman 3at Warner Bros. to make way for James Gunn’s new DCU plans, herRogue Squadronmovie is back in contention. Speaking on theTalking Picturespodcast Jenkins explained how her movie has come to be back on the books at Lucasfilm. She said:

“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I went and started working on that, we talked about well maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3. So we did a deal for that to happen, we started a deal. So when Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘We have to finish this deal.’ So we finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. We’ll see what happens there. Who knows. They have a hard job in front of them of what’s the first movie they’re going to do. They have other directors who have been working, but now I’m back on doing Rogue Squadron and we’ll see what happens.”

Patty Jenkins Wants to Make Her Star Wars Film

Although it continues to be on uncertain ground, the latest update from Jenkins suggests that she may get to make herStar Warsmovie after all. Currently, there are four movies definitely on Lucasfilm’s slate, consisting ofThe Mandalorian & Grogu, the Rey Skywalker sequel, James Mangold’s “Dawn of the Jedi” movie, and Dave Filoni’s “Mandalorian Era” closing movie. In addition to this, Taika Waititi is said to still be working on his ownStar Warsoffering, as is Shawn Levy, but they are less certain of moving forward. Now that Jenkins is seemingly back in the mix, she is determined to make the film she always wanted to. She continued:

“Absolutely, because of what I’m saying. Star Wars is a beautiful…the emotion of Star Wars, what it stands for is something so beautiful in this world, and in particularly, in a moment that we are at right now where Star Wars was born out of World War II. It’s born out of how do you make a metaphor and talk in metaphor. And so in that way I’ve always wanted to make a fighter pilot movie, it’s been a dream of mine. I always had a hard time of it because I’m in love with the jets of the ‘70s and ’80s, and that’s not where the great dogfight stories are. Star Wars becomes a great playground for that. So if I can do something that is beautiful and something that serves that audience, I would love to do it.”

Dave Filoni ‘Never Thought He’d Do Live Action’ Star Wars According to Clone Wars Star

In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, Star Wars: The Clone Wars star Jaime King discussed the rise of Dave Filoni.

Whether Jenkins’ movie will go the distance is clearly going to be decided by her draft script, and whether it fits with Lucasfilm’s future plans for the franchise. It is possibly not going to be a quick decision.
