The much-anticipatedPeaky Blindersmovie is officially moving forward atNetflix, andCillian Murphywillreturn as Tommy Shelby. Though aPeaky Blindersmovie has been rumored to be in the works for some time, and was expected to begin filming later this year, today’sofficial confirmation will please longtime fansof the series that have been awaiting its return. First debuting in 2013 on the BBC,Netflix acquired U.S. distribution rightstoPeaky Blindersin 2014, airing the entire series Statesideuntil its conclusion in 2022.
As perDeadline, Cillian Murphywill return for thePeaky Blindersfilm,which has yet to find its title. Murphy will also serve as executive producer alongside creator Steven Knight. The film is set to be directed by Tom Harper, who is no stranger to the series, as he directedthree episodes of season one. In a statement released by Knight, he said he’s “thrilled” to finally be moving forward with the movie, and says it will be “no holds barred.”

A British ganagster saga set in 1919 post-war Birmingham. Cillian Murphy is Thomas Shelby, leader of the most feared and powerful local gang, the Peaky Blinders. But when a crate of guns goes missing from an arms factory, their battle-hardened leader recognizes an opportunity to move up in the world.
Cillian Murphy, who portraysBirmingham bad boy Tommy Shelbyin the series, also added to Knight’s sentiments, saying it feels “gratifying” to be collaborating with him and Harper once more. He says that “this one is for the fans.” Murphy is currentlyin the middle of filming the Danny Boyle sequel,28 Years Later, which began principal photography in Northumberland on June 17, 2025.

Netflix Developing Two Peaky Blinders Spinoff Shows
The world of Peaky Blinders is growing, with Netflix developing a sequel and a prequel series.
