Envision Media Arts has teamed up with Pez Candy Inc. for an exclusive agreement that will result in ananimated moviebased on the spring-loaded candy containers with the flip-top heads. Cameron Fay, who helped script the 2012The Three Stoogesmovie, is being tasked with writing the feature. Though, no plot details have been revealed at this time.
Lee Nelson and David Buelow are producingPezfor EMA. Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer and Jonathan Hung are responsible for bringing the project to the studio. They will executive produce alongside EMA’s David Tish. No director has been attached at this time. And it isn’t clear who will voice the characters, who may be, likeThe Lego Movie, based on several existing properties. Over the years,Pezhas released toys for Disney, Star Wars, The Simpsons and more. They also have several characters based around various holidays such as Easter and Christmas.
Pezwas created 88 years ago in Austria. Pez Candy Inc. views itself as a candy company first and foremost, and debuted their first sweet treat way back in 1927, which was only available in the peppermint flavor. First arriving in a tin box similar to the one used by Altoids today, the containers slowly morphed over the next couple of decades, with the first Pez head arriving in 1955. Santa Claus and Mickey Mouse were the first two characters released. The dispensers are now available in over 80 countries, with over 3 billion of the candies consumed on an annual basis in the United States alone. EMA CEO and founder Lee Nelson had this to say about the impending animated adventure.
