Appearing on a recent episode ofFashionably Late with Rachel Zoe, theactresssaid she wants to doLegally Blonde 3. And she doesn’t think there is a better time than right now.
So, will Elle Woods make a run for the White House? With the ever-growing need for more women in politics, Reese Witherspoon feels this would be the perfect way to bring back hericonic character. The last time we saw Elle Woods was in the 2003 sequelLegally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde. And the franchise did offer up one more sequel in 2009 with Legally Blondes, which didn’t involve Reese Witherspoon. Though, as far as the actress is concerned, the sky is the limit for Elle, and she does want to make her soar again. Here’s what she had to say about the possibility ofLegally Blonde 3.
“A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is, to get more women. And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office. Maybe President!”
Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoeco-host Derek Blasberg says that when it comes to Elle Woods' return, the girl need to go big or go home. Reese Witherspoon fully agrees with this assessment. About continuing theadventuresof Elle Woods in the proper fashion, the actress continued talking about sequel possibilities.
“It would be cool. I think we’re ready to see Elle and see what she’s up to lately. That said, I don’t know. Call MGM. I have no idea.”
As of this moment, MGM has not announced plans forLegally Blonde 3. But this is a good way to get the conversation moving. If fans show enough interest, it will happen. And Sony is currently in need of a franchise hit. The firstmovie, which was released in 2001, was a smash with audiences, and pulled in a stellar $141 million worldwide from just an $18 million budget. While the second movie wasn’t such a big hit, and garnered some very harsh reviews, it did manage to pull in a $124 million gross off a $45 million budget, proving to still be a lucrative endeavor. Along with the direct-to-DVD spinoff Legally Blondes, which starred twins Milly Rosso and Becky Rosso, the movie also spawned a successful Broadway musical. While there are no current plans forLegally Blonde 3, it doesn’t sound so far fetched.
