The CW is letting go of another major hit asRiverdalecomes to an end. Based on the characters and stories from Archie Comics and created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who’s the creative director of the comic book franchise. First premiering in 2017, the dark teenage thriller follows the lives of Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and all the people from the titular town, that’s always surrounded by mysteries.

Starting as a story sharing many similarities withPretty Little Liars, another universe Aguirre-Sacasa has been part of, as the seasons went byRiverdale’s unexpected twists and storylines turned it into a completely different show, sometimes exploring paranormal or supernatural aspects. But those strange turns never affected the impact of the show, which always remained as one of the most popular productions within the network.

Last year, The CW announced that the show was coming to and end just like their other popular series,The Flash, and now the last episode is just around the corner. Riverdale is ending next week withGoodbye Riverdale, and the first teaser of the last episode has finally been released courtesy ofRiverdale After Dark: A Riverdale Podcast. Check it out below.

The last season took place in the 50s, with Jughead being the only character that remembers their original storyline. The last episode is set to restore theRiverdaleuniverse to its course, but considering the nature of the show, many changes are ahead.

Could Riverdale Go On Beyond the Series Finale?

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has already tried toexpand the world of the showwith a spinoff titledKaty Keene, who’s another popular character from the comics. Starring Lucy Hale, the show was set in New York and followed a group of young artists trying to make their way in Broadway. However, even with the series included a strong connection withRiverdaleby including Ashleigh Murray’s Josie McCoy, it only lasted one season, and it was poorly received.

Riverdalealso shared its universe in some twisted ways with Netflix’sChilling Adventures of Sabrina, since the teenage witch is another major character from Archie Comics, and the show starring Kernan Shipka was also developed by Aguirre-Sacasa. In fact, Shipka joined the cast ofRiverdalefor a short storyline after the Netflix hit ended.

Although there are no current plans of developing a new show centered on any character from the show, the possibility of exploring some storylines in a deeper way may not be completely off the table. Characters like Cheryl, Veronica and Jughead have become so popular that it wouldn’t be a surprised if Aguirre-Sacasa decides to give them another chance in the future. The main problem would be the current situationThe CW is going through, canceling most of its scripted shows due to expenses.

But since Aguirre-Sacasa is the creative director of Archie Comics, the stories from that universe are at his disposal to create new worlds, just like he did withChilling Adventures of Sabrina.
