The Batsuit has always been one of the more criticized aspects ofBatman and Robin, and evenRobert Pattinsonsays he’s no fan of the outfit after a firsthand experience. As we all know now, Pattinson will be the next actor to play Batman on the big screen whenThe Batmanis released in theaters in March. In the sneak peek images and trailers, fans have gotten to see a pretty good look at the new Batsuit worn by Pattinson’s Dark Knight.
At the start of production, however, they didn’t have a finished Batsuit all ready to go for Pattinson. For a screen test, the actor had to put on one of the previousBatmanmovie Batsuits, and theBatman and Robinone was handy. Speaking with the Japanese publication Eiga (as translated byReddit), Pattinson addressed what it was like to wear the infamous outfit.

“I think (the screen test suit) was George Clooney… It looks cool, but it feels like a nightmare. I can’t move. I was sweating all the time, and I was scared that I couldn’t do anything with this (laughs). My suit is not only very cool, but it’s also incredibly well designed. Even if I play a fight scene with a lot of movement, I can move anyway.”
As Pattinson notes, his experience in wearing the old clunky Batsuit donned by Clooney only helped him to better appreciate the real suit he’d be given forThe Batman. Dating back to Michael Keaton’s original Batsuit, those older outfits were infamous for the way they restricted the movement of the actors. Most notably, they couldn’t even turn their head to the side because of the Batsuit’s design. By comparison, the new Batsuit has Pattinson feeling much, much more free.

Robert Pattinson Already Has Ideas for His Batman Future
The Batmanis set in a standalone universe unconnected to any other previously-released movies in the DCEU. It’s spawning a franchise of its own already which includes two spinoff shows in the works at HBO Max. There isn’t a sequel toThe Batmanthat has yet been officially greenlit, but it does seem inevitable, as long as the movie performs as well as it’s expected to. Pattinson also has ideas in mind for where to take the next movies.
“I’ve made a kind of map for where Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies. I would love to do it," Pattinson told Empire Magazine.
Producer Dylan Clark added, “As the first standaloneBatmanin ten years, the hope is we can lay a foundation that you can build stories upon."
Sounds like we could be seeing Pattinson in the role for some time to come. We’ll be seeing him debut in the role with the release ofThe Batmanwhich also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon.
