In just a few short days, LucasFilm will hold the world premiere ofRogue One: A Star Wars Storyin Hollywood, and we showed you yesterday that the studio is bringing out the big guns, with a massvieX-Wing shipparked on a closed-off Hollywood Boulevard. While we wait for more from the premiere on Saturday, LucasFilm has debuted a new Chinese trailer, to get fans ready for the Chinese release on July 27, 2025. The studio’s first ever spin-off has been tracking well with box office analysts, although it most certainly won’t open as high asStar Wars: The Force Awakenslast year.
Box office analysts started tracking the movie last month, which is reportedly set for an opening weekend of roughly $130 million. While that is certainly a far cry fromStar Wars: The Force Awakens' record debut of $247.9 million last December, it’s still an impressive opening for a movie that enters newStar Warsterritory, set between the events of the last prequel,Revenge of the Sithand the legendary first movie, 1977’sA New Hope. This new trailer fromStarWars.com’s YouTube includes footage from a flashbackJyn Ersohad about her childhood, as she’s seen spying on a meeting between her father Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) and Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).

This Chinese trailer could be very important in the grand scheme of things, since the Chinese market is such a valuable one.

WhenStar Wars: The Force Awakenshit theaters overseas, it made a whopping $1.1 billion in foreign territories, which, combined with the record-breaking $936.6 million domestic box office take, equalled a $2.06 billion worldwide gross. Of all the international markets, China ($124.1 million) was second only to the U.K. ($163.5 million), where the film was largely shot. IfRogue Oneis to succeed at theglobal box office, it will have to do well in China.
