The mission to complete theHellboytrilogy continues. It has been eight years sinceHellboy II: The Golden Armycame out, but some of the creative team, namelyRon Perlman, are still trying to get the third installment off the ground. Now, according toPerlman, he is actually working onHellboy 3.

Ron Perlmanrecently took to hisTwitteraccount to give those of us who want to seeHellboy 3some hope. Even though it seems like pretty much everyone else needed to make anotherHellboymovie, especiallyGuillermo Del Toro, are busy and not ready to get to work on it,Ron Perlmanclaims that he is indeed working onHellboy 3, even if nobody else is. Here is what he had to say about it.

“I’m working on another Hellboy movie. Nobody else is. But I sure am!”

This is not even close to the first time thatRon Perlmanhas teased his desire to getHellboy 3made. In the past couple of years, the actor has repeatedly tried to generate some traction for the project, starting hashtags on Twitter to generate fan support and constantly willing to discuss the potential for the movie. At one point, he said that he doesn’t actually want to make the movie, given that it is a pain to put on all of the makeup required to becomeHellboy, but he feels that they have an obligation to finish the story.Guillermo Del Torohas become exceedingly busy in the years sinceHellboy II: The Golden Armycame out and it is hard to imagineHellboy 3getting made without him, so that is no doubt going to be one of the major challenges ingetting the movie made, but there are many other issues to overcome.

The first twoHellboymovies were slightly ahead of the curve in terms of thecomic book adaptationboom in Hollywood. The firstHellboywas well received by critics at the time but didn’t break the bank at the box office, earning just shy of $100 million on a $66 million budget back in 2004.Hellboy II: The Golden Armyfared better in every way. The movie currently sits at a very respectable 85 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it made $160 million from an $85 million budget. While that still isn’t what most studios would want in terms of a return on investment, the movie has gained a large following since it left theaters and given the interest in comic book movies at the moment, a thirdHellboy moviecould do very well.

Ron Perlmansays he is working onHellboy 3and we want to believe him, but he could just be telling a fan what he wants to hear to a degree. Not only that, butPerlmanisn’t getting any younger and a movie likeHellboy 3would be very demanding, soGuillermo Del Toroand everyone else would need to try and get to work sooner rather than later. That seems less likely with every passing day, butRon Perlmanwon’t stop giving us hope.
