CBS has ordered a pilot for the new TV seriesRush Hour, based on the blockbuster movie franchise starringChris TuckerandJackie Chan. CBSissued a pilot commitment back in October, with the potential TV series now moving forward to produce the pilot episode.Bill Lawrence, who createdScrubsandCougar Town, wrote the pilot script, which centers on an arrogant Los Angeles detective who teams up with a by-the-book Hong Kong cop after he is assigned to a case in L.A.
Bill Lawrencerevealedearlier this month that the showwill feature a new plot that is much different from the movie trilogy, but will feature the same kinds of characters. The actor who will take over the Lee character, originally played byJackie Chan, will be a martial artist, but the series creator added that he may just find the right actor who doesn’t have martial arts experience and teach him along the way.Bill Lawrencewill executive produceRush Houralongside originalRush HourdirectorBrett Ratnerand produceArthur M. While the project is moving forward in the right direction, it’s not a guaranteed lock to make it to series. CBS ordered a pilot based on the blockbuster movie franchiseBeverly Hills Copa few years back, which was considered a sure thing to receive a series order, especially since originalBeverly Hills Copfranchise starEddie Murphystarred in the pilot, and was set to have a recurring role in the series. CBS surprisingly decided against giving the project a series order though, so, just becauseRush Houris based on a hit movie series, doesn’t guarantee its success on the small screen.
