While a newSaw moviehad been rumored for years, it finally seems to be getting off the ground. Earlier this year, Lionsgate brought onPiranha 3DwritersJosh StolbergandPeter Goldfingerto write the script forSaw Legacy, with a report from earlier this month teasing that filming would begin sometime this fall, even though the project didn’t have a director attached. It seems that has changed, with a new production listing claiming that this horror sequel has landed a pair of sibling directors,Peter SpierigandMichael Spierig(Daybreakers).
AReddituser discovered an updated listing from the Ontario Media Development Corporation, which lists what film and TV productions will be shot in the area. This listing confirms the report from earlier this month, which revealed that filming will take place in Toronto, Ontario between September 12 and October 21, but it also reveals that theSpierigbrothers have come aboard to direct. Lionsgate has yet to confirm this information as of yet, but it seems that this sequel is finally back on the right track.

Before the writers came on board earlier this year, we hadn’t heard much about this sequel over the past few years. In 2014, producerOren Kroulesteased that originalSawcreatorsJames WanandLeigh Whannellcould be involved in some capacity, but that hasn’t been confirmed. The Ontario Media Development Corporation listing reveals thatOren KroulesandMark Burgwill produce, withDan HeffnerandPeter Blockserving as executive producers, with no mention ofJames WanandLeigh Whannell.
All seven films in theSawfranchise have grossed $415.9 million domestically and $873.3 million worldwide. That number may not be too exciting, since several movies have crossed $1 billion on their own just this year, but it is impressive since six of the seven films cost just $57 million combined to produce, although there were no budget figures released forSaw IV. We’ll have to wait and see if we get any official confirmation onSaw VIIIin the weeks and months ahead.

Oren Kroules also revealed in 2014 that the project probably wouldn’t be ready to announce until Comic-Con 2016. However, when the full SDCC schedule was announced last week, there was no mention ofSaw 8, but it’s possible that a surprise panel could be announced before the convention gets under way next week. TheSpierigbrothers have been attached to direct a project entitledThe Winchester Mystery House, but it’s possible that could be put on the back burner if they have boarded this newhorror sequel. Stay tuned for more updates onSaw: Legacyas soon as they come in.
