Next month,Seth RogenandEvan Goldberg’s new seriesPreacherwill debut on AMC, based on the belovedcomic bookseries by Garth Ennis andSteve Dillon. Today, Deadline reports that the producers are shepherding another one of Garth Ennis’s comic books,The Boys, which has been put into development at Cinemax.Seth RogenandEvan Goldbergare teaming up withSupernaturalcreatorEric Kripkefor this new series.
The Boysran for 72 issues between 2008 and 2012, with Wildstorm publishing the first six issues before the series shifted to Dynamite Entertainment. The story is set in a world filled withsuperheroeswho have become celebrities, whose egotistical behavior oftentimes ends up doing more harm than good. The title characters are a group of CIA agents who are tasked with overseeing these heroes from the shadows, and, if necessary, taking them out.
Much likePreacherbefore it,The Boyswas initially set to be adapted as afeature film, with Columbia Pictures picking up the rights in 2008.Phil HayandMatt Manfrediwere set to write thescriptshortly thereafter, withAdam McKaysought to direct back in 2010, but that was the last we heard about the movie adaptation.Neal H. Moritz, who was originally attached to produce the movie, is now set to executive produce theTV series.
