Earlier today, a new viral video surfaced forTransformers: The Last Knight, which some have speculated could mark the return ofShia LaBeoufasSam Witwitckyfrom the first three movies. That rumor hasn’t been confirmed, but we’ll find out for sure what the cryptic video was hinting at on Tuesday, May 31. Production is already under way on this newTransformerssequel, but it seems that mysterious teaser may not hint atShia LaBeouf’s involvement after all, since he’ll be quite busy for the next month, launching an unusual new social experiment. The actor, alongside his collaboratorsNastja Sade RönkkoandLuke Turner, will be hitchhiking across America.
Earlier this week, the actor launched this new experiment atTakeMeAnywhere.Vice.com, which tracksLaBeouf,RonkkoandTurner’s journey. The trip started in Colorado this past Monday, whenShia LaBeouftweeted out his coordinates.LaBeouf,RonkkoandTurneralso revealed on a Reddit thread that fans who pick up this trio will be treated to a free lunch for their generosity, and they’ll also get to take a video with them. The first video was posted below, which shows the three lucky fans and their journey to find the coordinatesLaBeoufleft for them, and their first encounter with the actor.
The project was commissioned by the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and the Finnish Institute in London as part of the MediaLive festival. The festival directorNicole Dial-Kayexplained that the trio won’t limit who can pick them up, or whether they’ll contribute money to theirdrivers. Here’s whatNicole Dial-Kayhad to say in a statement during an interview with The Boulder News.
“The point of the project is to examine corruption-the theme of this year’s festival-through the tradition of the American road trip. They are opening themselves up to goodness or possibly the corrupt nature. It’s about openness and exploration and connecting to people. We want this to be a really organic process where things can happen. We don’t want to put any limits on what might happen, because it may stop something wonderful from happening.”
This new journey comes just a few months afterShia’s last stunt, where he invited fans in London to ride in anelevatorwith him, which was streamed live for all to see. Last year the actor also started afan hotline, and set up a marathon of all his movies in a New Yorkmovie theater, which was live streamed. After starting this journey in Colorado on Monday, the Take Me Anywhere site currently reveals that the trio are now in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in the parking lot of a Super Target. This project will run through June 23, so we’ll have to see whereShia LaBeoufand his collaborators will be taken on this hitchhiking tour across America. Take a look at the video below, which revealsShia LaBeouf’s interactions with his first drivers.
