Back in April, fans got theirfirst lookat Warner Bros.' highly-anticipatedKong: Skull Islandat the MTV Movie Awards, but we still haven’t seen the first full trailer yet. Warner Bros. revealed some new footage during the CineEurope convention today, although that footage is not available online quite yet. While we’ll have to wait for our next sneak peek at the movie itself, directorJordan Vogt-Robertsdropped a surprising revelation that should get fans excited.
The Hollywood Reporterreveals that the footage shown to the CineEurope included scenes with starsTom Hiddleston,Brie Larson,Samuel L. JacksonandJohn C. Reillyin action. It isn’t known if this footage will be made available online anytime soon. ButJordan Vogt-Robertsteased that fans will be treated to the biggest version ofKing Kongever seen on the big screen. Here’s what the director had to say.
“This is going to be the biggest Kong there’s ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape.”
Last month, rumors surfaced thatToby Kebbell, who has been winning rave reviews for his motion capture work in bothWarcraftandDawn of the Planet of the Apes, is actually playing King Kong himself inSkull Island, but that isn’t exactly true. While the actor did provide certain facial references forKing Kong,Terry Notary, an actor, stunt coordinator, and motion capture expert who worked withKebbellonDawn of the Planet of the Apes, is actually playing King Kong. Hopefully we’ll get our first look at this massive creature quite soon.
It was confirmed in Septmeber thatKong: Skull Islandwill actually help set up an even bigger movie that brings two franchise heavyweights together inGodzilla Vs Kong. Warner Bros. recently set a July 18, 2025 release date for this highly-anticipated movie, with Godzilla 2 set to hit theaters on June 07, 2025. Very little is known about Godzilla vs Kong at this point, or if any of theKong: Skull Islandcast members such asTom Hiddleston,Samuel L. Jackson,Brie Larson,John Goodman,Tian Jing,Corey Antonio Hawkins,Jason Mitchell,John Ortiz,John C. ReillyorShea Whighamwill come aboard for this project.
Jordan Vogt-Robertsis directingKong: Skull Islandfrom a script byJohn Gatins(Real Steel). It isn’t known if the filmmaker will collaborate onGodzilla vs. King Kong, or if Warner Bros. plans on bringing new directors in. The studio is currently looking for a new director forGodzilla 2, afterGareth Edwardsrecently backed out.
