Following the shocking and concerning news thatAmazon will take over creative controlof theJames Bondfranchise, a new frontrunner for the coveted role of 007 has now emerged. And he’s a real slow horse. The latest name favored to lead the iconic franchise is none other than Scottish actor andSlow HorsesstarJack Lowden, who has seen his odds improve in the wake of the behind-the-scenes overhaul.

The 34-year-old actor, who is also best-known for roles in the likes of'71, Calibre, Fighting with My Family, Capone, Benediction, and Christopher Nolan’sDunkirk, has seen his odds rise to 8/1, according to Oddspedia, putting him alongsideother 007 favorites Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Theo James.

Amazon CEO Finally Breaks Silence on ‘James Bond’ Takeover, Reacts to Possible AI Use in the Franchise

The ‘James Bond’ franchise is heading into a new era, and Amazon’s Andy Jassy has finally addressed the change in creative control.

Oddspedia spokesperson Shing Mon Chung said “Jack Lowden’s surge to 8/1 has stirred fresh excitement among Bond watchers. As the only Scot in the running, he could bring the franchise back to its roots, evoking the legacy of Sean Connery’s iconic run.”

“While Jeff Bezos' fan poll favoured big names like Henry Cavill and Tom Cruise, the bookmakers seem to think Amazon’s creative shake-up could deliver a surprise. Lowden’s rise suggests industry insiders believe a bold, nostalgic move might just be on the cards.”

Is Jack Lowden Interested in Swapping the Dysfunction of MI5 for the Globe-Trotting Glamor of MI6?

Now that Amazon is in charge (a change that has resulted in perfectlyreasonable and not at all over the top reactionsfrom fans), the actor chosen to play the next iteration of James Bond is expected to be announced much quicker than it likely would have been under long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. While we still have no idea who that actor will be, it didn’t take Amazon’s Jeff Bezos long to ask the audience, taking to social media to pose the question, “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?”

And the response was overwhelmingly in favor of one man, former Superman actor Henry Cavill. The actor has been in the James Bond frame before, with his surprisingly lackluster audition for the 2006 rebootCasino Royalehaving leaked recently. While there are those who still want to see Cavill slip into the iconic tux, an actor like Jack Lowden is far more likely due to his age and profile. Plus, there would be something poetic in restarting the franchise with another Scottish actor, harking back to the very beginning and the first James Bond, Sean Connery. But would the Slow Horses star even be interested inswapping the dysfunction of MI5for the globe-trotting glamor of MI6?

In a statement following the $1 biillion takeover, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said, “We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.” Barabara Broccoli, meanwhile, added, “My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli. I have had the honor of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”
