AfterKraven the Huntercrashed and burned in theaters, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe was put on an indefinite hiatus. Understandably, since the franchise failed to find its footing without a Spidey at the forefront, despite Tom Hardy’sVenomtrilogy becoming a profitable fan-favorite. While Tom Holland continues to be the MCU version ofSpider-Man, it seems Sony still has plans for their own cinematic universe, this time with a new web-slinger. A rumor points to the company moving forward with the Sony Spider-Man Universe afterAvengers: Secret Warsby introducing Spidey himself— Miles Morales.

According to theCosmic Circus, Sony might be considering rebooting their failed Spider-Man Universe afterAvengers: Secret Warswith a live-action Miles Morales at the forefront. Of course, the rumored information should be taken with a grain of salt until the studio or a trade publication reports on it. However, there is reason to believe it could be true, as Miles Morales haslong been rumored to form part of Sony’s future plans. The biggest factor now seems to bethe intent to reboot Sony’s Spider-Man Universe by actually having a version of the superhero featured. The complete rumor:

Spider-Man

“[The reason] why, is Miles (according to [the] information I currently have, so please take this with a grain of salt) is going to be set in a rebooted Sony Universe that’s set to be established after Secret Wars.”

The only caveat that may complicate this is Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s hopes tointroduce Miles Morales into the MCU. It seems like a no-brainer for the alternate Spider-Man to make an appearance inAvengers: Secret Wars, which will be the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. However, Sony could seemingly take control of the character post-Secret Wars, making Morales the centerpiece of a brand-new live-action franchise. Another domino also in play is the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, whichcontinues to get delayed indefinitely.

Every ‘Spider-Man’ Project Currently in the Works

There are several major Spider-Man projects currently in the works at Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. Right now, Disney+ is releasing episodes weekly for their animated series,Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which is set within the MCU multiverse, but not in the sacred timeline. Critics have raved about the show, which tackles storylines and villains otherwise absent in the Tom Holland-led movie franchise. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios and Sony are moving quickly onSpider-Man 4,which is set to film later this year and is rumored to focus on another multiverse-based narrative.

On the strictly Sony side of things, they are still developingSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Although it has facednumerous delays, it is still looking towards a potential 2026 or 2027 release window. The Sony Spider-Man Universe might be dead as of this writing, but they are currently filming a Nicolas Cage-led Prime Video series titledSpider-Noir, which features the actorreprising hisSpider-Verserole in live-actionas an alternate, noir-themed version of Spider-Man. The ultimate fate of their cinematic universe will seemingly have to wait untilAvengers: Secret Wars, which could feature characters from Sony’s defunct franchise.
