Spider-Man: Homecoming 2is really starting to heat up. Withproduction slated to beginlater this year, new casting details have surfaced about two pivotal characters. One of these characters is reportedly a villain, but the studio has made it more difficult than usual to identify this villain, since they won’t even identify the gender, with the studio seeking both male and female actors between 30 and 45 years of age for this role. The villain in the script reportedly has “elevated ideas,” and the script doesn’t specify any ethnicity for the character either.

This vague description, combined with the plethora of differentSpider-Man villainsto choose from makes it virtually impossible to try and figure out who this villain may be. The age range doesn’t exactly narrow it down too much, and with the studio considering actors of all genders and races, it could be any one of the villains inSpidey’s rogue’s gallery. There is also no indication if this could be a character that hasn’t been seen in any of the previous Spider-Man movies, or if Marvel and Sony will use characters that haven’t made it to the big screen yet.

The studio is also seeking for another high school lead role, who will be able to “hold their own” alongside Tom Holland and have “leading man qualities”. This character has also not been identified, although the studio is seeking males between the ages of 18 and 24 years old. This character will not lead to any sort of spin-off film, but there is speculation that, since no ethnicity was specified for either of these two new roles, that they may be related in some way, but that has yet to be confirmed. With very little story details released at this point, it’s tough to determine what this sequel could be about, but there have been some interesting unconfirmed details that have come through lately.

There was a report in January that the superhero sequel is casting a “femme fatale” type of character, with speculation immediately swirling that thisfemale charactercould be Felicia Hardy, a.k.a.Black Cat. If true, that character may be introduced inSpider-Man: Homecoming 2before the spin-off Sony is developing, entitledSilver & Black, which centers on Silver Sable and Black Cat. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man isn’t believed to be featured in any of these spin-offs Sony is developing, but there was a report that Tom Holland will be featured as Peter Parker, not the costumed Spider-Man, in theVenomspin-off, which hits theaters in October.

Jon Watts is directingSpider-Man: Homecoming 2from a script bySpider-Man: Homecomingwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Production is slated to take place in a number of international locales such as Berlin, London, Venice and Prague, along with New York City. Sony and Marvel have set a June 17, 2025 release date for this sequel, making it the first Marvel Phase 4 movie, debuting just months afterAvengers 4(August 18, 2025). This report first surfaced at That Hashtag Show earlier today.
