The big news out of last night’s Sony Pictures presentation atCinemaConwas the new Spider-ManTom Hollandtaking the stage, where the official titleSpider-Man: Homecomingwas unveiled. However, that wasn’t the only Spidey news that came out of the convention, with the studio unveiling the official logo for theirUntitled Animated Spider-Man Project, which is arriving in theaters sometime in 2018. Here’s what Sony Pictures Animation presidentKristine Belsonhad to say about the project last night.
“(It’s) a vision of Spider-man that will take your breath away. Conceptually and visually, it will break new ground for the superhero genre.”

We first reported on theanimated Spider-Manalmost exactly one year from today, when Sony announced the project at last year’s CinemaCon. The studio had original scheduled the movie for July 31, 2025, but back in December, the studio shifted therelease dateto July 28, 2025. Unfortunately, the studio didn’t offer any plot details regarding this project, although during an interview from August,Chris Miller, who is writing and producing withPhil Lord, promised they’re taking a fresh approach to the character.
“I will say, it is not just anotherPeter Parkerorigin story that you’ve seen 400 times. It is something totally unique and different and not like anything you’ve seen. That’s all I can say… and you’re going to love it!”
The project doesn’t have a director at this time, butPhil LordandChris Millerwere originally set to direct, before they signed on to make LucasFilm’s highly-anticipatedStar Wars Anthology: Han Solo Movie. They are still set to produce and write the treatment. The project marksPhil LordandChris Miller’s return to Sony, whom they’ve worked with onCloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,21 Jump Streetand22 Jump Street.
