In just five short days,Star Trek Beyondwill hit theaters, and it has already gotten plenty of high praise inearly reactionsfrom several of the nation’s critics. Of course, we’ll have to wait until July 22 to find out how fans across the world respond to this sequel, but to get everyone read for this release, a new TV spot has debuted, which featuresIdris Elbaas the villainous Krall. However, this video features a much different look at this character.
We have previously seenKrallin a number of trailers and and other pieces of footage, but this TV spot reveals Krall offering a warning, that the Federation may never see him again, but if they do, they should “be ready.” The most interesting thing is that Krall delivers this message in a human form, looking much different than the alien creature Krall we’ve seen in the past. We’ll have to wait and see how Krall’s journey unfolds on the big screen.
Idris Elbateased in a preview last week that this villain is incredibly complex, while directorJustin Linadds that he wanted a character that will “deconstruct the Federation’s ideals” in a way that still seems valid.Simon Peggteased that they wanted a “complex reason” of why he’s such a bad guy, whileIdris Elbaadds that he’s damaged but fans will feel empathy towards him. Finally,Chris Pinereveals thatIdris Elbabrings an “incredible amount of nuance” to the role, describing Krall as a “soloist” and a “nihilist.” Hopefully we’ll see more footage of Krall in the next few days as we wait forStar Trek Beyondto open in theaters.
