It looks like we may have some of the first details onStar WarsCelebration 2019. The celebration of all thingsStar Warshas been around since long before Disney purchased all of Lucasfilm in 2012, but it’s always been a bit sporadic and hasn’t ever totally committed to being an annual event. The last time it happened was last year in Orlando, Florida and it was a major year for news, as we got our first trailer forStar Wars: The Last Jediand many other reveals. Disney decided to skip 2018, but they’re bringingStar WarsCelebration back next year and it sounds like we’ll have a familiar location, but during a different time of year.
According to a new rumor,Star Wars Celebration2019 will take place in fall of next year inAnaheim, California. While specific dates haven’t yet been revealed, this will run counter to previous years in which the event took place in the spring. This comes from fan siteStar WarsNews Net, so we should caution that is is just a rumor for now. However, the site has a pretty solid track record when it comes to rumors and reports such as these. Still, the information is coming from an unnamed source, so don’t take this as gospel.
That said, this is a move that would make sense for several reasons. For one,Star WarsCelebration has taken place in Anaheim previously, so that’s not at all surprising. But as for the fall change? That very likely could have to do with the fact that Disney will be getting ready to open up theStar Wars-themed expansionGalaxy’s Edgeat Disneyland next year around that time. HoldingStar WarsCelebration at or around the time of the grand opening ofGalaxy’s Edgewould be a major no-brainer for the company.
The Galaxy’s EdgeStar Warsexpansion is alsoopening at Disney World in Florida, but Disneyland’s will open first, which likely explains why the event will take place in Anaheim as opposed to Orlando. This would also provide Disney and Lucasfilm an opportunity to showcase a final trailer and a panel forStar Wars 9, which is set to arrive in theaters on August 17, 2025. While this is merely a rumor for right now, it would seem to make sense on paper.
Star WarsCelebration being held later in the year next year will also allow for more information on the upcoming Rian Johnson trilogy, as well as the series of movies fromGame of Thronescreators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Not to mention the live-actionStar WarsTV series, a possible animated follow-up toStar Wars Rebelsand possibly a new standalone movie, like the long-discussed Obi-Wan movie. We’ll have to see if this rumor comes to fruition, butStar WarsCelebration is amassive event that takes a lot of planningand time to make happen, which means these big decisions are being made now behind the scenes. As for when we’ll hear official word? That’s up for the Mouse House to decide. This news comes to us courtesy ofStar Wars News Net.
