Disney XD’s hit animated seriesStar Wars Rebelswrapped up its first season last month, and fans got an early glimpse ofStar Wars Rebels Season 2with the new trailer that debuted duringStar WarsCelebration a few weeks back. As you may know,Star Wars Rebelsis set between the events ofStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, charting the early stages of the Rebel Alliance. TheStar Warsfranchise is growing at a seemingly exponential rate, withStar Wars: The Force Awakenskicking off a new trilogy along with the spinoffStar Wars Anthology: Rogue One, which is set within the same timeline asStar Wars Rebels. When asked about the possibility ofStar Wars Rebelscrossing over into any of the movie timelines,Simon Kinbergsaid that has been discussed.

“Absolutely there’s been conversation about it. That this story could be a story that crosses over into other films, whether it’sStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hopeor other movies. And that movies could potentially even enter into our timeline and our moment. It’s a big galaxy. So, you know, things are happening all over the place that don’t necessarily have to react to each other, the way we react to news around the world. We never meet the Chilean miners that are trapped in that mine. We know about it and the world reacts to it. So each of the different stories has to acknowledge the reality of what’s ever happening in that moment in time. But sure, and I think one of the things that’s really fun aboutStar Wars Rebels, and potentially some of the films, is there’s a sort of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern version of these stories. I mean, the stories thatGeorge [Lucastold were stories about specific characters in a massive galaxy. And so there are a lot of other characters' stories that he hasn’t told.”

Of course, there have already been characters from the movie universe that have crossed over intoStar Wars Rebels, such as C-3PO, R2D2 and Lando Calrissian, with theStar Wars Rebels Season 2trailer teasing that Darth Vader will be a part of the story as well. While we don’t know exactly when the second season will debut, it’s possible that they could try to integrateStar Wars Anthology: Rogue Oneinto the story, since it will hit theaters next December, presumably in the middle of the show’s second season run. They could take a page from Marvel, planting little Easter Eggs from the upcoming movie into the new season, but it’s too soon to tell if that will happen or not. On the flip side,Dave Filoniwas asked about the possibility of a live action movie featuringStar Wars Rebelscharacters, while revealing that there will be a crossover into the upcoming comic books.

“I would never say never to that. I mean, now that Lucasfilm is so integrated in story from top to bottom in all different forms of media, we already have had our characters cross over into novels. We’re gonna have our crossover into comic books. I would say it’s entirely possible. And I would encourage it. I’ve talked to the creators of the other films going on and, you know, I’ve always made it clear if you want somebody, just let me know. They can jump over there. I don’t care. I’m all for it. Because I think it makes the experience for fans so much stronger. And what a moment it would be to see some of these animated characters up there live on the screen. It would be great for me too.”

With its first season in the books, it’s too soon to say how longStar Wars Rebels' run will last, or if it will end up crossing over into the movie timeline. If a live-action movie is to be made, it’s possible that the voice actorsFreddie Prinze Jr.(Kanan Jarrus), Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger),Tiya Sircar(Sabine Wren) and Steve Blum (Zeb Orrelios) could actually appear in the flesh to reprise their characters, which could truly take theStar Warsfranchise to an entirely new level. What do you think about these new details?
