Disney and LucasFilm’sUntitled Gareth Edwards Directed Star Wars Spin-Offis starting to come together, although we still don’t have any confirmed plot details at this time.Last week, a report surfacedthat the story will follow both Han Solo and the bounty hunter Boba Fett, with the production gearing up to start shooting in Mexico. Today, we have a new report from iKwiz, which reveals thatMichael Fassbenderis the front runner to play the bounty hunter Boba Fett. It isn’t known if the actor is in negotiations, or if a formal offer has been presented to the actor at this time.
The story is reportedly set beforeStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and it’s being speculated that the plot focuses on the relationships between Han Solo, Boba Fett and other criminals, which could be The Hutts. While we don’t have any further details on the story, iKwiz’s source reveals that Boba Fett is actually a “mantle,” as opposed to the name of an actual person.
“Boba Fett is a mantle. The name, the ship and the armor gets passed down to a successor. That’s how he is brought back for the films and explains the character for later stories.”
If that is true, though, it doesn’t explain how young Boba Fett is shown inStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, along with his father Jango Fett, but perhaps that mythology is dealt with in some way in the spinoff. The unidentified source also reveals that Disney has even more plans for Boba Fett in the future.
“Fett fans are in for a few surprises. They [Disney] get the cult status of the character, so you’re going to see more Boba Fett in the future.”
Chris Weitzis taking over the writing duties on the Star Wars spinoff, withTatiana Maslanyreportedlybeing cast as the female lead, although that report has yet to be confirmed. While it isn’t known when production may begin on the spinoff, we know that the actor will be shootingX-Men: Apocalypsein Montreal starting in April, so it’s possible that he could shoot the spinoff after wrapping onX-Men: Apocalypse.
