Premiering this past weekend, the supernatural body horror filmTogetherdidn’t exactly make a big splash at the box office, but those who did see it had nothing but good things to say about it. This includes someone who knows a thing or two about horror:Stephen King. As the author of more than 60 novels ranging from the macabre to the suspenseful, he’s more than qualified to judge if a movie likeTogetheris worth your time, and from the sound of things, it is.
Hitting theaters on July 30,Togetherstars real-life lovebirds Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a couple who – years into their relationship – find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh. Seriously, if you haven’t seen this one yet, you absolutely have to get to a theater ASAP to check it out, as it’s on par withThe Substancein terms of how disturbing its practical effects are. Mr. King thought so, too, as he recently took to social media to write:

“Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great – and brave – in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works.”
He’s not wrong, as first-time director Michael Shanks makes us feel something for Tim and Millie right from the start. Their relationship issues are ones we’ve all dealt with in our own lives at one point or another (even if they border on toxic), making them easy to relate to. It helps that Franco and Brie are married in real life, as their chemistry is off the charts in this one, which brings an even greater authenticity toTogether. By the time the proverbial poop hits the fan, we’re already invested in their emotionally dysfunctional lives, and are horrified by what happens to them.

Critics Agree with Stephen King About ‘Together’
Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 90% rating, King isn’t the only one who thoughtTogetherwas a masterpiece. Critic Alan French called it “one of the best horror films of 2025,” while Rene Sanchez added that it “delivers a considerable dose of body horror and chilling atmospheres while exploring the destructive nature of toxic relationships.” MovieWeb’s own Britt Hayes was another who had high praise for the film, writing in her review:
“Rare is the film that can capture the brutal honesty of our most intimate relationships with such clarity, let alone one that successfully balances searing humor with distinct existential dread. Together achieves all of the above and then some, using body horror as a visceral metaphor to unpack our deepest insecurities in relationships, both as individuals and, well, together.”

Needless to say,Togetheris one that should definitely be on your radar, because if King liked it, you know it has to be pretty good. While it’s only managed to take in a little over $11 million at the box office so far against a budget of $17 million, here’s hoping it can fare a little better as time goes on, because Shanks is undoubtedly a fresh voice in the horror space, and we need to see what else he can do.
