The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortarawas originally published in 1997. It follows a young Jewish boy living in Bologna, Italy in 1858. Having been secretly baptized, he is removed from his family and raised as a Christian. The boy’s family hopes to free their son, but become part of a large political battle that pits them against the Pope, democracy and Italian unification. What do you think?
