We are in the golden age of TV right now and that means there is a lot to look forward to on the small screen. Even with that, it is possible thatStranger Things season 2is one of the most anticipated shows of 2017, possibly rivaled only by that ofGame of Thronesseason 7. Point being, Netflix has a huge hit on their hands. So fans will be thrilled to hear that series creators Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer have confirmed thatStranger Thingsseason 3 is happening and season 4 is likely. But that will probably be it.

The Duffer brothers recently spoke withVulturein anticipation ofStranger Thingsseason 2, which is set to arrive on Netflix just in time for Halloween on October 27. While speaking about their plans for the future of the80s sci-fi show, they revealed that season 3 is definitely happening and that they will probably end it afterStranger Thingsseason 4. Not because they wouldn’t want to make more, but because they logically can’t keep it going beyond that. Here’s what Ross Duffer had to say about it.

“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out. They’re going to have to get the f*ck out of this town! It’s ridiculous!”

Matt Duffer added, “I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.” That is a good point.Stranger Thingsseason 1 left the town rocked andStranger Thingsseason 2 looks like it is going to up the stakes in a big way. The new season takes place a year afterWill’s return from the upside downand things are fine. For now. But as we’ve seen in theStranger Thingsseason 2 trailer, big things are on the way and something bad is definitely going to happen. Putting these kids through that every single year just becomes cruel at some point.

Stranger ThingsSeason 2 will bring back the beloved young cast members from season 1, including Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler) and Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers). Winona Ryder will also be back as Joyce Byers andDavid Harbourwill also be returning as Sheriff Hopper. In addition to the returning stars, some new talent has been added for the new season in the form of Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), Paul Reiser (Aliens) and Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert).

Another thing that the Duffer brothers are going to have to contend with is the cast. The kids are growing up and growing up fast, so if they want to get these seasons out in time without it seeming weird, they will probably have to keep production going. Netflix putStranger Thingsseason 2 into production very quickly, which is why we’re getting it so soon. Hopefully,Stranger Thingsseason 3 will happen in a similar fashion, but the cast members are getting offered other projects as they become more famous, which could get in the way as well. In any case, the good news is, we should be getting two more seasons ofStranger Thingsbefore all is said and done.
