As we all know by this point in time, Warner Bros. recently put the kibosh on their stellarSwamp ThingTV series over on DC Universe after only airing a single episode. There has been tons of confusion about why the show got such a swift bullet to the head, but today we have word that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Alec Holland and his swamp-dwelling buddies. Today we’re hearing that Warner Bros. is planning to bring the mean green guy back to the big screen in aSwamp Thinghorror movie with a similar sort of vibe to the series.
This news comes on the heels of a rumor that was circling a few weeks back that said that the powers that be behind the scenes at Warner Bros. were looking to castFantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemandThe Killing of a Sacred DeeractorColin Farrell as John Constantinein an all-new movie. Could Warner Brothers actually be planning to one day combine these two characters and finally bring us theJustice League Darkmovie that we have all be praying for?
God, let’s hope so. But until we know more about Colin Farrell’s newConstantinemovie and/or thisSwamp Thingmotion picture maybe its best to not get our hopes up (yet again) for aJustice League Dark movie.
That said, thisSwamp Thingmovie seems to be a sure-bet from what we hear. In fact, it looks like all the backlash that came about after the cancellation of theSwamp Thingseries over on DC Universe - and the positive word of mouth the show is gathering all the same - has more than inspired the studio to move ahead onSwamp Thingthe movie. However, fans of the series might be upset to hear that the powers that be behind the scenes are planning to reboot the character from the ground up with a whole new cast and crew. Weak. Whatever ends up happening with this newSwamp Thingmovie or the Colin FarrellConstantineflick, I think DC is moving in the right direction. After all, they are already confirmed to be producing aAquamanhorror movie spin-off with James Wan based on thekiller fish creatures The Trenchfrom Wan’s recent mega-blockbuster.
Meanwhile, DC Universe is planning to release the remaining episodes of their now dead in the waterSwamp Thingseries throughout the next few weeks. That series - which is as good as everyone is saying it is - comes to us from Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheidenbased on the character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
