Taylor Kitschnever really identified himself as either atelevision actor or a film actor. It’s all work, and he doesn’t approach a character differently, whether they’re on the big or small screen. Currently, he’s getting ready for the August 27 premiere of Amazon’sThe Terminal List: Dark Wolf, where he plays Ben Edwards. He stars and serves as executive producer in the action thriller with Chris Pratt, who plays James Reece. While promoting the show is his primary focus right now, that hasn’t stopped reporters from asking about his thoughts on the upcomingFriday Night Lightsreboot — and he hasn’t been shy about offering advice to whichever actor ends up being “the next Tim Riggins.”

During an interview withIGN, Kitsch was up front about feeling likehe’ll never play Riggins again, but he’s flattered that the character still resonates with fans. Kitsch also said that whoever fulfills Riggins' bad boy with a heart of gold function on the upcoming show should take their own swing at the role, just like he and his castmates did on the original series.

The Panthers stand on the sideline in Friday Night Lights

I’m never playing Riggins again, let’s be clear. But I think you’re always wanting to make an impression. I’m flattered (that the character still resonates with people). If I was a songwriter and had an amazing song that you thought was great and people responded to it, that’s the best thing you can do as a storyteller. Leave an impression or evoke something from someone through a performance.

Whoever that next Riggins is, take a swing and hopefully you can leave an impression (like) a bunch ofus did on that show.

Peacock beat out Netflixto land the reboot of the 2006 drama series, which was itself based on the 1990 non-fiction book and subsequent film of the same name.Friday Night Lightsfolloweda high school football teamin the fictional town of Dillon, Texas, a small and close-knit community. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton led the cast, playing coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami Taylor, who was a school faculty member. Kitsch, as previously mentioned, played Tim Riggins, the troubled Dillon Panthers' fullback/running back. The character was a heavy drinker and a womanizer who had relationships with Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly) and Tyra Collette (Adrianne Palicki). Riggins was a main character for seasons one through four, and then became a recurring character for the show’s fifth and final season.

The ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot

Although Kitsch won’t be reprising his role as Tim Riggins, fans should stillgive the reboot a trywhenever Peacock sets a premiere date. According to a 2024 Deadline article, the series is in development with Universal Television producing, and the original showrunner, director, and producer (Jason Katims, Peter Berg, and Brian Grazer) are working on the reboot as well. It will be set “following a devastating hurricane, when a rag-tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship and become a beacon of light for their town.”
