The Batmandirector Matt Reeves has settled any possible doubt in regards to the recent Robert Pattinson casting as our new Bruce Wayne. Last month, the internet was set ablaze when it was revealed that the formerTwilightstar and current indie darling was at the top of Warner Bros.' list to take on the role of the Caped Crusader for Reeves. Last week, several reports confirmed he had locked things down, with some conflicting reports in regards to whether or not he had actually signed the deal. But Reeves has weighed in on the matter in a not-so-subtle way.

It wasn’t until later that Affleck revealed he was officially retiring from the role as well. Reeves is not what one would call terribly active on Twitter, but he did take some time to weigh in on this Robert Pattinson casting news. Though, he did so without using a single word. He shared a gif of Pattinson from his acclaimed movieGood Timeand included several bat emojis to make it inescapably clear what he was getting at. This is a done deal. Pattinson is his man.
Warner Bros. apparently took the casting process very seriously. They see Batman as one of their most valuable properties, if not the single most valuable one they have. As such, they didn’t want another divisive situation like the one they ended up with during the Batfleck era.Robert Pattinsonis said to have beaten outTolkienandX-Menfranchise star Nicholas Hoult for the gig. The pair apparently screen tested, allegedly in costume, last week and that put the final nail in the coffin, with the edge going to Pattinson.
For the most part, many people seem to betaking the Batman news quite well. Though, many casual moviegoers still mostly know Robert Pattinson as the guy fromTwilight, which has given certain individuals pause. But, in the years since that franchise wrapped up, the 33-year-old actor has been making fascinating career choices, largely sticking to roles in indie movies such asThe Rover,The Lost City of Z, the aforementionedGood Timeand this year’sHigh Life. He also stars inThe Lighthousewhich arrives later this year and, following its debut at Cannes, Pattinson received a bit of Oscar buzz for his performance. Just imagine if they can put “Oscar Winner Robert Pattinson isThe Batman” on the poster.
Beyond that, there are quite a few rumors circulating. It looks like the hope is that this willkick off a trilogy, possibly not connected in any way to the current DC on-screen universe.
