The Dark Knight’s iconic cape and cowl are not having the desired effect in the latest TV spot forThe Batman. Far from it, in fact, asJohn Turturro’s Gotham gangster Carmine Falconecould not be less frightened of the costumed vigilante in the latest footage from the upcoming DC outing. Released courtesy ofYoTube channel farrogh _ali, the footage gives us our first proper look at Falcone. “You think you’re gonna scare me with that mask and that cape?” Falcone asks in the clip, a question which no doubt leaves The Batman feeling more than a little deflated.

While brief, it is certainly nice to see something from John Turturro’s performance as Gotham’s criminal overlord and adds a level of intrigue to know that this latest version of Carmine Falcone will feel no fear when faced with The Caped Crusader. For now, at least. A hugely powerful mob boss, an enemy of Batman, and, most notably, a friend of the Wayne family, the inclusion of Falcone inThe Batmancould be just one of the more troublesome factors discovered by Bruce Wayne as he forced to reflect on his and his families influence on Gotham City.

Tackling the criminal empire of Carmine Falcone will be just one of Batman’s missions, asThe Batmanintroduces audiences to a version of the crime-fighter just two years into his career stalking the streets and striking fear into the hearts of criminals…though not Falcone, of course. With only a few trusted allies by his side, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer named The Riddler (Paul Dano) begins targeting Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The BatmanWill Avoid Being an Origin Story

Dropping audiences into the second year of The Batman’s vendetta is no accident, as director Matt Reeves has revealed that the moviewill not go over the character’s already well-known origin storyall over again. “We’ve seen it so many times,” Reeves said to Esquire. “It’s been done too much. I knew we couldn’t do that.” The Batman will also take inspiration from several classics of the silver screen, including such 1970s masterpieces asThe French Connection, Chinatown, andTaxi Driver.

Following a series of delays thanks to the ongoing global situation,The Batmanis now scheduled for release in the United States on June 01, 2025. The movie is alsoset to spawn several spinoffs, some of which are expected to delve even deeper into Gotham’s criminal underworld and the realm of Carmine Falcone.
