The Boyshas always been right on the nose when it comes to its satire of the world’s political state. Season 4 certainly upped the ante in this respect, and now Season 5’s stage is set to deliver a violent, controversial, and politically-charged finale that will, as usual, be somewhat reflective of the current state of the real world. With the U.S. political landscape about to undergo a dramatic change, showrunnerEric Kripkehas revealed the impact this will have on the final season.

The Boyshas evolved over the yearsto go from a straight-up parody of Marvel and DC superheroes, to being much more focused on real-world situations, all-be-it with some brutal and bloody deaths and larger-than-life characters. After Season 4’s finale was forced to add an on-screen disclaimer due to its depictions of an assassination, the question of how blurred the lines between fiction and reality will become could be something that is fully reliant on how real world events transpire prior to the series returning to screens.

Speaking toForbes, Kripke addressed the simple fact that there is a strong chance that the series will continue to change and evolve during filming, even if that means script changes happening as scenes are being shot. He said:

“…I mean, look - things adjust all the time. So, that doesn’t really scare us. That’s pretty par for the course. You’re always rewriting these things right up until the day before they shoot, and sometimes, the day they shoot. So, we’re used to changing things as the world changes - but yes, we definitely adjust scripts as new events come to light.”

‘The Boys’ Is Set to Deliver a Disturbing and Messy Finale Where No One Is Safe

While many TV shows are often accused of pulling punches when it comes to killing off key characters, there are not many who can say the same aboutThe Boys. Right from the opening episode, the shocking body count began to rise and did not stop. Having lost several major characters in ways that are ingrained on the back of many retinas forever, the chaos coming in the final seasoncan only be imagined.

While there are few specifics known about howThe Boyswill end, there have been several teases about how bad things will get for those who have survived through four seasons of mayhem. In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, star Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie in the series, said that fans really should expect something “crazy” and “messy.”

“There’s something great about an ending that’s intentional, and The Boys Season 5 is gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be very messy. I don’t know, I just keep thinking a lot of us are probably gonna die. It’s just going to be insane and I’m excited to see what that entails.”
