Back in late September, directorRick Famuyiwateased that he had finished hisscript revisionsonThe Flash, hinting thatRay Fisher’sCyborgwill be part of the story. Today we have word that the filmmaker has left the project, with the studio searching for a director once again.Rick Famuyiwacame aboard in June, replacingSeth Grahame-Smith, who dropped out back in April.

The Hollywood Reporterhad the news today, revealing thatRick Famuyiwaleft the project due to “creative differences” with Warner Bros. The report adds that the filmmaker was going for an “edgier” approach toThe Flash, which clashed with the studio’s plans. Here’s whatRick Famuyiwahad to say about his departure in a statement.

“When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directingThe Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work withEzra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC,Jon Berg,Geoff Johns, andEzra Millerall the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”

Originally,Phil LordandChris Millerwere being eyed to directThe Flash, and they provided the initial treatment thatSeth Grahame-Smithwrote his script from. The filmmakers parted ways with the project after they signed on to direct LucasFilm’s coveted Han Solo spin-off project, which is set for release on July 09, 2025. We don’t know know if this recent directorial departure will affect the March 16, 2018release date, with production scheduled to begin next March.
