Netflixis now working on how to approach a sequel to their action thriller franchise starter,The Gray Man. According to Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Film, who recently sat down withCollider, the streaming platform is eager for more Ryan Gosling-led adventures, but have not yet cracked how to bring the series back forThe Gray Man 2. See what Stuber had to say below:
“When we talk about it, the advantage we have is we have incredible actors; they’re watchable, they’re unique. So, you know, Joe and Anthony [Russo] have talked about, ‘If we go back to it, how do we spend time with this guy, Ryan Gosling,’ who I think is incredible. I just watch what he’s doing right now, and I don’t know if there’s a better actor out there in terms of his range and what he’s accomplishing. The ability to have him in a franchise like that is huge, so we gotta really slow down and verify, ‘What makes that character great, and how do we really extend that story?'”

While details ofThe Gray Man 2remain under wraps, it certainly sounds like Netflix and those involved in crafting the sequel want to put the attention on the characters rather than big action spectacle.
Released in select theaters and on Netflix last year,The Gray Manis based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney. The story begins when the CIA’s most skilled mercenary - whose true identity is known to none - accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets. A psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.

Led by the A-list duo of Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling and Captain America himself Chris Evans,The Gray Manwas met with mixed reviews from critics, but was much better received by audiences, becoming Netflix’s most watched movie at the time and has now totaled 253.8 million hours viewed.
The Gray Man 2: What We Hope to See in The Sequel
The Gray Man, hailed as one of the best action spectacles, will be returning with much daunting storyline. Here’s what we hope to see in the sequel.
The Gray Man Was Always Planned as the Beginning of a New Action Franchise
Should Netflix work out how to approachThe Gray Man 2, the sequel would likely just be the first of many steps towards spawning a new action franchise. Alongside the follow-up, several spinoffs are also reportedly in early (very early) development.
The first is a prequel project centeredon Chris Evans’ sociopathic ex-CIA agentand mercenary Lloyd Hansen. While few details have been revealed about the potential prequel project so far, it has been reported that “Deadpoolwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are behind the script.”

Another spinoff idea currently being bounced around would focus on another mercenary introduced inThe Gray Man,Avik San, aka The Lone Wolf, who was portrayed by Indian actor, producer, director, and singer Dhanush. Again, the project is in the very early stages, but is reportedly something that directors Anthony and Joe Russo are interested in pursuing.
The Gray Manis available to stream on Netflix. Check out the trailer below:
