20th Century Fox has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming film,The Martian! This intense sci-fi thriller features a star-studded cast that includesMatt Damon,Jessica Chastain,Kristen Wiig,Kate Mara,Michael Peña,Jeff Daniels,Chiwetel Ejiofor, andDonald Glover. The latest footage showsMatt Damonas the world’s best botanist as he fights to survive on Mars. It undoubtedly comes from master directorRidley Scott. The first few moments almost play like a follow-up toPrometheus. But then the humor kicks in amongst the space scares. And you know this is a slightly different type of film thanRidley Scottis usually known for.
During a manned mission to Mars, AstronautMark Watney(Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring The Martian home. His crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. The Martian is based on the novel by author Andy Weir. It landed at number 12 on the New York Times Best Seller list for hardcore fiction when it debuted in March, 2014. Thebest-selling bookhas since become a favorite amongst hardcore sci-fi enthusiasts and general audiences alike.

Though, his own branded sense of self-humor never stands in the way of him becoming a true hero. Astronaut Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) is the first ever woman commander of an Ares mission. She doesn’t have time for chauvinistic comments, and quickly proves herself to be one of the best leader’s NASA has ever had. And then there is German astronaut Alex Vogel, who knows his place in this story a little too well (do you think he’ll surivive?).
The last two members of the crew areSebastian Stanas Christopher Beck. He is the doctor on the crew. And then there isKate Mara, who plays Beth Johanssen. She’s the best at summing up this crew, and may hold the key to their ultimate survival.Ridley Scott’sThe Martianis in theaters this November, just in time for the Holidays.
