The latest character unveiling forThe Munstershas just arrived. There had been rumors that Sylvester McCoy, aka the Seventh Doctor, was a part of the cast, but it wasn’t until now that his role was revealed. Posting an image of McCoy in character on Instagram, Zombie says the actor is playing Igor, the loyal servant of the Munster family. You can see the photo below.
In the caption, Zombie writes, “I am very excited to bring you all this exclusive shot direct from the set ofThe Munstersand announce the casting of SYLVESTER McCOY as IGOR, the loyal servant to the Munsters. You may remember Sylvester as the 7thDoctor Whoor perhaps as Radagast from Peter Jackson’sThe Hobbit. GET READY FOR IGOR.”
Recently, Rob Zombie also revealed thatRichard Brake was playing Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, the resident mad scientist. He follows the previous unveiling of the three main cast members: Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa Munster. Another recent photo showcased Roebuck getting fitted for Grandpa’s coffin, which, just like the entire Munster home, is being built from scratch for the upcoming reboot.
Previously, it was reported thatLoststar Jorge Garcia and Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson were also in the cast, but their roles were not revealed. Rob Zombie still has yet to officially confirm these names, but asSylvester McCoyand Richard Brake were also rumored, it seems likely that Garcia and Peterson are also involved. Perhaps Zombie will do some more cast unveilings in the very near future with production moving along swimmingly on the new movie.
“I really hope audiences walk away feeling entertained and laughing,” Dan Roebuck said ofThe Munstersreboot in a recentHorror Geek Lifeinterview. “That’s all we really hope for making any movie, well, unless it’s a drama. If all goes well and people really like, maybe we’ll get the chance to do it again. I just hope people realize that they’ll have a whole new version ofThe Munstersthat can live and co-exist side-by-side with the original version ofThe Munsters.No one wants to replace it, we all love it so much. We just want to shine a spotlight on it with our approach which I think is the best way to look at it.”
He added, " I love how Rob was just showing glimpses of their progress. Then I was just blown away by what they’d done. Based onthe photo he put out, you know I was able to stand in front of that house and it was great. It’s as close to the original house it could ever be. That street used to be on the Universal backlot, but it was moved to make way for Amblin Entertainment. The house has been moved and then built over numerous times; he started from scratch and it was done perfectly, just perfection. That house should give you an idea of the detail with which this brilliant director is approaching the material."
The Munstersdoes not have an official release date at this time. Reportedly, the movie will have a day-and-date release, with the plan to debut in both movie theaters and onPeacock. For now, fans can watch classic episodes of the original TV series on the streaming service.
