If you haven’t seenMarvel’sAnt-Manyet, there will be plenty of spoilers below, so be sure to read on at your own risk. Back in June, producerKevin Feigeteased thatAnt-Manwill feature Janet Van Dyne as The Wasp in a crucial flashback scene towards the end of the film. This turned out to be in one of the movie’s two post-credit scenes. Many fans are now wondering if The Wasp will be featured in future MCU movies, whichKevin Feigehas confirmed in an interview with/Film. Here’s what the producer had to say, revealing that her appearance will not be inCaptain America: Civil War.

“It’s a good question, and it will certainly be in phase three. Where exactly inPhase ThreeI’m not sure, but it won’t be inCaptain America: Civil War.”

InAnt-Man, one of the subplots involves the slightly-estranged relationship between Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). When Hank recruitsScott Lang(Paul Rudd) to be theAnt-Man, Janet is against the idea, since she is far more capable of utilizing her father’s suit. At the end of thesuperhero movie, Hank reveals that he lost his wife and Hope’s mother Janet during a mission where she was wearing The Wasp suit, and he didn’t want to lose his daughter as well. During the firstend creditsscene, Hank shows his daughter a brand new Wasp suit that he and Janet were designing for their daughter to wear some day.

Paul Ruddhas already been confirmed to reprise his Scott Lang role inCaptain America: Civil War. His appearance is set up by the second post credits scene, where Captain America (Chris Evans) and The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) finally locate The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), whose robotic arm is caught in some sort of device. The scene ends with Falcon saying “I know a guy,” hinting that he will bring inAnt-Man.Kevin Feigealso admitted that The Wasp was originally written into theCaptain America: Civil Warscreenplay, but she was eventually taken out, largely because there were so many other characters in the film.

“She was included in early versions of Civil War but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out. WithAnt-Man, and I’m not saying that’s whatAnt-Mandoes in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him. We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But its going to be in Phase three for sure.”

With all of that being said, many will wonder where The Wasp will appear inPhase Three. The studio has yet to announce plans for anAnt-Mansequel, and even if they did, it’s unlikely that there could even be a place for it inPhase Three, which has nine movies spread out over the course of three years. It isn’t known how many movies bothPaul RuddandEvangeline Lillyare signed on for in theirMarvelcontract, but it’s certainly clear that we haven’t seen the last of either actor in the MCU.
